Second Impressions

After a few listens in the car I do like fears but it does not convey the feeling I was looking for when I started it. The strings and vibraphone are not phrased right and overall the song is just lacks the right character. Lots of small tweaking to do there. The glue song is almost unlistenable for about a minute and a half due to crazy high-pitched synth noise. I’m going to completely redo glue but try to keep some of the feeling of the middle of the song. I may just cut the first minute+ if I can’t get it to sound better. My near-field monitors have been busted since some DJ used them w/o my permission at a house party a few years ago. Mixing on PC speakers is generally not a good idea. One trick that helps a bit is to mix at a low level but it has drawbacks as well. Generally if the song sounds good low it will sound good if it’s turned up a bit. My powered PC speakers are incapable of reproducing the ear piercing sound of that synth so I’ll just have to keep on trying mixes on various systems.
