Two new tracks

I’m very slowly making progress on getting rubycube to the next stage of development but with trying to ship a big MMO soon I have had very little energy left at the end of the day for any kind of coding. Sad! Small projects are great and rubycube has become something bigger.

I’ve had the itch to do a couple tracks lately so here’s some more rough productions that I did tonight.

<<< Edit: Down for re-construction >>>

My general process is to program all the basic beats, chords, melodies and a few transitions and bang out the rough track. I burn this to a CD and listen to it on various systems to see what I would like to bring out about the mix more and where I would like to add more detail. If the song sucks (many do) then I just leave it as is and move on to the next sketch. Sometimes I start with a drawing of the form of the song but with these songs I had particular inspiration. ‘Face your fears’ is heavy on cowbell which I’m fond of lately and I programmed the baseline from memory of a lick that I made up on my bass guitar. ‘Glue is for fixing’ is inspired by my brother (Cory) who does a lot of synchopated beats. I like to include synth phased transitions into my songs that coorespond with beat transitions so I brought it into a more breakbeat style with lots of chording and synthetic rhythms. So far I’m liking the intro that comes in so heavy and offbeat. The higher freq synth parts didn’t mix right so I need to program their osc a bit better but later in the song they harmonize correctly.
